The Secret to Lassoing the Laggards So They Listen

Apr 28, 2018

I could have titled this Daily as "The Secret of Giving Introductions that Get People Coming Back." It all started with Marjorie Barstow.

I used to marvel how Marj introduced Alexander's discovery to beginners.

It was a contradiction. I knew what Marj was going to do, and yet I never knew what would happen. Marj was both deliberate and experimental; predictable and spontaneous; repetitive and original.

Her presentation was not some improvised affair thrown together on scrapes of paper - it was the result of a lifetime of thinking. It was precise and planed - every question, idea and story calculated to extract engagement.

For example - after attending many of these, I finally noticed how Marj used questions. She didn't TELL people, she ASKED people. Her dialogue was peppered with questions and raised eyebrows - gentle, piercing looks that lassoed laggards into her field of attention.

I marveled at the time - I couldn't imagine my Self being so exact.

How detailed is your introduction to Alexander's work?

Until meeting Marj, I was pretty loose fitting and free. Even after Marj, I still made a lot of it up as I went along.

And then I discovered something.

Marj was right. You need precision. You are telling a story - THEIR STORY - and you want to capture their interests, emotion and engagement. How did I find this out?

I entered in a harsh landscape.

A place of barren faces

of bored and restless looks

of craggy tempers and impatience

oh the Corporate house for me!

Yes - your first Corporate workshop.

Entering a room of obligated staff worrying about all the tasks that fall behind as they sit uninspired by you - your job is to transport them.

To sweep them away, to carry their minds into another world - and you better script that. Moment to moment, minute to minute - until each word, each story is crafted for its full effect.

This is markeaching at its grandest - a form of infotainment - designed to capture the attention and minds of your audience. To succeed in business, your workshop better be 9 out of 10, with 80+ participants voting for me.

But fret not possum - help is on the way.

In my Getting Alexander Work in Corporations, you will be crafting the script of your first Corporate workshop. Because everything will depend upon it.
