Touching Can Save Your Life
Sep 07, 2019An untouched baby can die within its first few months of life.
There are numerous studies - a quick online search will lead you there - that conclude touch is in integral part of our developmental needs.
However, touch to an Alexscovery teacher is something altogether different again. It is an educational tool; a means of communicating something so important, so vital that once you experience you will wonder how you ever survived without it?
It is a contagious form of touch.
In much the same way that you are sensitive to other people's emotional states, so you are sensitive to touch. The Postural condition of the Toucher can communicate directly into the Postural system of the Touched.
Toucher is your Alexscovery teacher.
Touchee is a student, trying to understand why they are:
- In pain
- Unable to get enough air for what they want to do
- Always falling over to the left when they do a pirouette
- Getting headaches after too long at a computer
- Feeling depressed at the end of a day at work
It's an inexhaustible list, and touch cuts to the quick and demonstrate that there is primary core influencing each and every one of these conditions.
What is that?
It is the condition of coordination between your head and spine; and how that core engine is spreading out into your arms and legs.
Horses appreciate Alexscovery touch very much.
In experiments I conducted many years ago, a most curious phenomenon emerged. While their horses looked off in the distance, worried owners explained to me the latest injury the poor darlings were suffering from.
Now – I could slap the horse on the injury site, and she couldn't care less. I could even stroke it, pat it, massage – all eliciting little reaction.
BUT
Whenever I approached that area using my Alexandrian touch – intending to communicate an alternate coordination protocol – the horse would immediately jump away. No way was it going to let me mess around with the neural complex of its injury.
When I touch that way, the horse immediately knew.
I had to work around the edges. Slowly the horse would pay attention – no more looking off into the distance. Instead, I detected a suspiciously interested mien as I edged my way closer to their injury.
Finally, I was permitted to touch the sensitive area. At that point, the mouth of my horse would start chewing and slurping; and its eyes would half close – a sure sign of internally easing stress. The owners were even happier than the horses.
"It takes me an hour to get that change" one owner declared in shock.
I got so popular with one horse, that whenever I stopped, she would brush her head against my back to indicate I must continue. We laughed a lot at that!
Touch by an Alexscovery teacher is one of the most mysterious things you can experience. It isn't the Alexscovery teacher that makes the mystery – it's your nervous system. You can experience a Postural mechanism that you did not know you possessed.
Alexander once said:
"You can't tell a person what to do because the thing you have to do is a sensation."
Which is exactly right – that sensation is the experience of your Postural mechanism happening the way Mother Nature designed it. Any time you want to have the first-hand experience – come to an Introductory class at BodyChance:
