What Can You Change About Your Workplace?
Dec 13, 2019I first met my teacher Marjorie Barstow when she was 86. She told me a story about her Self sitting in a chair at her place of working in the home. This is her story...
***
She was uncomfortable, and she wanted to change her chair.
Then a new thought hit her:
"Oh, you're a big dummy," she told her Self, "This chair is never going to change."
"The only thing that can change around here is me."
***
It reminded me of a remark that Aldous Huxley – writer of "Brave New World" - was quoted as saying two years before his death in 1963:
"I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself."
So back to the question of this email: what can you change about your workplace?
The answer is obvious: YOU.
But how?
Especially how do you deal with emotional trouble – pesky flatmates, gossipy companions, fidgeting co-workers, angry customers etc.
When your place of work is not ideal, what do you do?
The answer starts with how we react to stress: emotional stress turns into physical tension. And physical tension can make us emotional. Dealing directly with emotions is tricky, but dealing directly with physical reactions is much easier when you know how.
Stress causes a universal reaction - FM Alexander discovered that stress starts with an alteration in the dynamic of your head/spine relationship. This dynamic alteration then flows down your spine into your arms and legs – influencing what you are doing adversely.
It needs an accurate description, and when you have that information, you gain added power. Clarity is power.
Clarity one of the things I am offering this month – a series of three live coaching sessions online with me to help make sense of BodyThinking Online, which is also on offer. Both together lead to more clarity, and an ongoing relationship about the work through our collective Facebook group.
For this month only, I am offering you a massive discount on my Pro Course BodyThinking Online course on how Alexander's Discovery interacts with your functional anatomy. Use the online course and your three coaching sessions to develop your understanding of the functional anatomy of Alexander's Discovery.
Once you discover how to analyse physical reaction, you can use it to develop skills and deal with difficult physical problems that seem to resist efforts to change them. When you teach others, it gives you an invaluable insight into coordination through the lens of Alexander's Discovery.
Of course – even with the individual coaching and the course - you still need to make the work yourself. No amount of coaching will help you if you don't apply the work.
But then, without the BodyThinking lessons and coaching, it is even harder.
Join the BodyThinking Online course and my coaching sessions online. The coaching covers three months and is included in the one price. The whole package also consists of some fantastic bonus items – such as a complete workshop where I show you how to use this information to help students instantly.
