What is Our Pons Asinorum?
May 22, 2017It's teaching a person who doesn't want to be taught.
There are many situations where this might be confronted:
- A music student doing Alexander as part of their degree
- A High School class that being presented with your talk
- Little Tommy dragged along by his Education Mum
- The 2nd friend in BodyChance's "Two For One" workshop
- A corporate gig where the company has mandated attendance
What do you do?
Three things:
- Make sure you intrigue and entertain them
- Demonstrate to the class with an individual
- Get effective hands on as many as you can
I am thinking a lot about this - because of a corporate gig that is coming up. It's not a kind of teaching I am used to.
I usually teach ONLY those who want to be taught.
However, with markeaching, I can do better: I can attract, entertain, educate, entice and win over when I remember this:
Alexander is the thing that nobody wants until they experience it, then they wonder how they ever managed without it.
Getting across that bridge is the pons asinorum of our work.
