Would You Train Twice?

Eileen Johnson trained twice. I was the same.

Here's our story:

Our first training was in a STAT-certified course in Britain. I was in London with Paul Collins, Betty Rajna and Vivien Mackie. Michael Gelb was in the first year's intake; I was in the second.

I don't know anything about Eileen's training because in ATSuccess we don't care about that. It almost never comes up. What matters is your drive to teach.

It was a STAT course, that's all I know.

We both had a curiosity drive to teach - to be the best - which led us both to train all over again. I trained directly with Marjorie Barstow - from 1986 through to her passing away in 1994. Eileen trained indirectly with Marj through Don Weed's Interactive Teaching Method community. This was her first contact with Marj-style, activity-based, interactive teaching.

Eileen did the ITM's four-year training, coming out with a second qualification.

Being Eileen, she didn't stop there. She just attended my London workshop and had this to say about it:

A quietly exciting time, pure Alexander’s discovery, leaving me much to consider afterwards.

This was a great space to visit again setting up a clear ‘yes plan’ as well as sharing valuable time with thinking people. Several insights emerged which helped me see how I get in my own way but at the same time I established a clear, reasoned plan in going forwards.

It also highlighted how easy it can be to take the wrong road and allow a good opportunity to be missed whether this be for the student or the people you hope will come on board.
