Yoga, Heads and Horses – The Postural Movement of Your Future
Mar 23, 2019Over that last few years, I have taught hundreds of Yoga Instructors and partitioners.
I always ask them the same thing:
"When doing an asana, how much do you think about your head?"
And the answer is usually the same:
"Not much."
(If at all.)
My guess is that YOU – or your students - probably don't think much about it either?
Which is amazing when you come to think about it. Because your head – by nature of its weight, location and concentration of senses – exerts more influence on your movement than any other part of your body.
So why do you ignore its presence?
Simple. You don't know it's there. You can see every other part of your body; you cannot see your head. You can feel every other part of your body; you cannot feel your head (your brain to be exact). You look from your head, so you cannot directly look at your head.
Movement is your posture, and your head is the primary influence.
Given those facts, you'd think more people would pay attention to what they are doing with their heads (and spine), but the truth of the matter is that they don't. There are some people who think about heads a lot – horses heads!
People who study horses movement understand the critical importance of the head/spine relationship in a horse. They even say things like:
"above the bit" – horses that are pulling back their heads too much
"below the bit" – horses that are compressing down into their spine too much
"on the bit" – horses that are moving well.
At ATSuccess I want to put you "on the bit".
And that means physically, emotionally and spiritually. Be it body-health, relationship-healthy, financial-health or spiritual-health – How do you keep your head in the game?
