TEACHER: "I wanted to make it easy for them."

We are on a coaching call. Exploring my concept of "markeaching"…

JEREMY: "What was the topic of the class?"

TEACHER: "How to find ease in living. Dealing with stress."

All rather vague. Like a 100 other classes exploring Alexander's work.

JEREMY: "How did the class go?"

Turns out, sometimes just 1 person showed up. They didn't really have any activity from their side, and ended up wanting to do the kind of work they had experienced previously.

All this was a result of the way the class was marketed.

Change that, you change the class. What kind of classes do you want to run?

Markeaching asserts that your group doesn't start when the students enter your teaching room, it starts when they first read, watch or hear about your class.

That is the "marketing" part of your group. It sets up your teaching experience. Whenever you write about your workshop, you are markeaching i.e. it means you are setting up all these things:

• Who will come
• Why they come
• What they will do
• What whey will not do
• How involved they will be
• How committed they will be

What do you want?

A group of lacklustre "let's-try-this-out-I'm-not-sure" participants, like wet fish in your greasy hand; or an articulate bunch of sharers who move so fast you are racing to catch up?

I know who I want.

Enthusiastic students are the life-force of any successful group; and it isn't luck that brings them in. You can be smart in your markeaching to ensure you get people who make your group amazing. It's up to you…

How you set up your group is how it will run.

Of course, knowing how to set it up, how to engage students in your work before they have even entered your teaching room - this is the work we will cover together in my 60 Day Foundations course beginning in October.
