YOUNGIFICATION – How Science Is Telling Us You Can Grow Younger As You Get Older
Sep 26, 2016Jann and I were on Skype call together.
Jann has almost finished a year deep-diving into the ATSuccess makeover for teachers who join our community. I was asking her how her experience now compared with the period of her post-graduate teacher training in 2010.
Back then, she said…
‘’I literally had to break down my concept of who I was and what I was, and start again. And I am feeling that same thing now. It’s like I am falling apart, I don’t know which way to go. I know what, but I don’t know how to get there.”
It’s how you stay young I suddenly realised!
I laughed: “It’s youngification. It’s how you Youngify your Self.”
We laughed together. That was a new word for me and I instantly recognised how it dovetailed perfectly with all the neuro-science I have been reading of late – The Brain That Changes Itself - AND my experiences of the last few years. I am literally feeling younger and younger.
I do not feel like I am getting older, I actually feel like I am getting younger!
Of course, I am not in denial. I am not going to jump off a plane in a parashoot (although I might) and I am not willing to risk injury in the ways I was in earlier years. There are physical limitations that arrive with time – however my experience comes from consciousness, not physicality.
Our human brain is the one organ that is literally able to redesign itself.
It’s like building a plane that’s already taken off - yes, we're flying through the skies while we're still building the plane!
Degeneration is not a given. Limitation is not a given. Like wine, the better the conditions you place your Self in, the richer and deeper the taste of it becomes. Research shows the risks of dementia are reduced by those who are actively seeking skill development.
Alexander’s work consists of evolving new cognition of alternate consciously-driven neuromuscular patterning.
Which is a fancy way of saying – learning new things. Doing new things. Being challenged. Being on a learning edge every day.
However, if you don’t use it, you don’t lose it.
It’s inspiring to know that there is no limit to the developmental possibilities of your human brain. None whatsoever. If you want to be challenged, join the ATSuccess community. That will involve you consciously deciding to cognitize new patterning.
Ask Jann, she’ll tell you.
Your abilities mature with age when you put yourself in an environment that is demanding more of you. “Falling apart” is what new neuro-muscular patterning is. The experience is a result of an evolving consciousness that just keeps redesigning and improving upon itself. The experience is glorious. Alexander called it “The Universal Constant in Living.”
What you you doing to keep the light of your brain alive in your life?
