Your Alpha Blink Transporter to Creative Paradise

It's been time for a breather, and a think.

Resting, making sense of the madness - convergent thinking v's divergent thinking - is an essential ingredient to being successful at whatever you do. Contrary to my own beliefs, recent research has revealed that

BEING TIRED

(what?!)

is a great way for convergent thinking to emerge.

Convergent thinking is putting pieces of the puzzle together. Since Peter Jacobson decided to resign as Co-Director of ATSuccess - to focus 100% attention of his attention on the online/offline biz he built by being in ATSuccess - I have been trying to figure out what to do.

THAT's a convergent thinking problem.

Many, different moving parts and needs and wants and musts - all swirling about in a Steinbeck-like depressive dust-crop of Wrath.

Do I close it?

Do I find a new partner?

Do I hire a personal assistant?

Do I carry on alone, doing everything?

In The Eureka Factor, Kounious and Beeman suggest exhausting yourself with analytical zeal, then taking a floppy walk in the forest. It's like tiring out a 5-year-old so they can finally nap.

The "napper" in this case is your Pre Frontal Cortex, which is the sane adult trying to manage your savage mammal within. But PFC is not inclined to think with convergent creativity. For that - Kounious and Beeman theorized - you need the "Alpha Blink."

This is a moment, just before a creative thought emerges, when your visual cortex goes offline. This ever-so-briefly opens the door for an unexpected thought to poke through from the dark recesses of that cave where your lower brain plays.
