Introducing PILANDES

pilandes Apr 16, 2026

Did you know how much easier it is to explain Alexander's discoveries when you integrate them into another body of knowledge?

Over the next few months, I am going to treat you to PILANDES – which is Alexander's discoveries wrapped around Pilates.

I stumbled into PILANDES - and now feel amused to find myself following my own ATSuccess strategy!

How did this happen?

MY STORY (told quickly)

I continue living in Japan - despite having no family here - while still running BodyChance. The school is now owned by zen place, a Pilates corporation of some 130+ Studios across Japan. Sadly, over these last three years, I watched my school wither away. No one in zen place knew how to promote it.

I realised I had to rise up to the challenge of rebuilding my school, as I did with the original BodyChance. But this time, instead of classical musicians, I find myself surrounded by Pilates educators and their clients...

PILANDES is my answer. It might work for your practice to explore this.

I’ll be running a training in PILANDES for Alexander teachers and trainees in London in August. Two days - come to either or both:

LONDON
Saturday, August 8th 10-5
Sunday, August 23rd 10-5

It will be held near Regent’s Park. Not ready to book people yet - just letting you know. I am going to do the same in New York. Again two days:

NEW YORK
Saturday, October 24th 10-5
Sunday, October 25th 10-5

Bring your leggings along, because it will be a workout as much as an exploration. A new kind of Alexander lesson?

Not sure - still inventing it.

But my description of the 5 Postural Joints that aid in restoring balance between our two duelling movement systems is central to my new approach. PILANDES is a concrete, science-based analytical method of observing the minute abilities of your Postural Support System (PMS) to transform your life.

You don’t have to be a teacher either - in fact, I will be working to bring in non-Alexander participants as an elegant way for the teachers who join to practice instructing PILANDES to new clients. That may even be you!

In the end, it involves having sharp eyes and developing a sophisticated analytical ability. If observation & movement analysis is a skill you want to develop, this is the course to join. I believe that observation is the engine of conscious evolution.

Anyway, for now settle back and enjoy my new series of a (sometimes) Daily on the subject of PILANDES: while Pilates is what you do, PILANDES is how you do it.

Alexander's discoveries for a new age.
